Day 01: Tambomachay to Pumamarca

We drive for 20 minutes to Tambo Machay our starting point.  From here we leave civilization and head off across alpine pastures to our first pass at 4200m. We then cross a second pass at 4300m before descending to our lunch spot beside Lake Queullacocha.  We cross two more passes in the afternoon before descending to the traditional community of Pucamarca with its stone houses and thatched roofs. We will camp here for the night.

Day 02: Pucamarca -Huchuy Qosqo –Aguas Calientes

We quickly pick up the Inca pathway, which runs through a narrow ravine before traversing the hillside and arriving at the citadel of Huchuy Qosqo. Perched high above the valley this impressive Inca site has a variety of architecture with buildings in both stone and mud brick. After a guided tour of the site we descend steeply to the town of Lamay where we have lunch before taking our bus to Ollantaytambo to take the train to Aguas Calientes where we´ll spend the night

Day 03: Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu - Cusco

In the morning you will start your 1 hour ascent to Machu Picchu to arrive in time for sunrise, or at the time you desire (bus is optional, $10 each way, first bus departs at 5:30am). If you have purchased a pass for Huayna Picchu in advance you will have the opportunity to climb the mountain (climbing time will be determined in advance depending on availability). There will be a two hour guided tour of Machu Picchu following which you will have the rest of the afternoon to explore Machu Picchu. You need to return to Aguas Calientes at least 30 minutes prior to your 9:30pm train departure. There will be transport waiting for you in Ollantaytambo to bring you back to Cusco, arrival time approximately 1:30am,  If you prefer to be back in Cusco earlier, you can select the 16:22 pm  or the 18:45 pm return train.
